Welcome to Russian Politics! A site directed at learning about one of the worlds most powerful nations. Russia holds a permanent seat on the UN Security Council but regardless, they are still often criticized as having 'Cold War Hangover'. The transition from a Communist state into democracy has not been a fast, bloodless or easy journey and they can expect to struggle with the 2014 Olympic Games exposing Russia publicly once again. There is a price to pay for freedom.

Moscow, the centre of Russian Politics

The centre of politics in any country is in its capital city. Moscow, the capital of Russia, is not only the most politically central city but it also houses the greatest number of job opportunities. Trying to cross provincial borders in Russia is unlike the freedom we have in Canada. Each province has its own centre which is trying to compete economically with Moscow... realistically impossible. The solution, rearrange Russia's territorial boundaries to revolve more equally around Moscow. An impossible task....?

  1. This is a very interesting article Elise, and I like how you gave a brief description of what it revolves around. I find it silly that the provinces are trying to compete with Moscow, Shouldn't they just all behave as a proper joint nation? There shouldn't be any arguements between civilians who live on essentially the same land.

  2. Elise, I've enjoyed reading your last two posts. From now on, you should be posting at least twice a week. And as a mentioned before, it's important that you begin the work of providing some historical context to Russian Politics - the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Cold War, the Russian Revolution, and even earlier: it is a fascinating country, but in many ways shaped profoundly by it's history. The you can begin to talk more about the new Russia, which you need to trend.

Finally, start to organize your posts in to catergories: history, breaking news, current developments, Nato, art, etc.

Remember your task is to become a kind of "expert" on Russian and it's politics.
